Mcafee Crosby Doane
The life of the beloved hymn writer told in her own words.
Frances Jane Crosby (1820 – 1915), commonly known as Fanny Crosby, was an American lyricist best known for her Protestant Christian hymns. She was one of the most prolific hymnists in history, writing over 8,000 hymns, in spite of being blind from shortly after birth. Also known for her preaching and speaking, for the duration of her lifetime Fanny Crosby was one of the best known women in the United States.
To this day the tremendous majority of American hymnals incorporate her work. Some of her best known songs include “Blessed Assurance,” “Jesus Is Tenderly Calling You Home,” “Praise Him, Praise Him,” and “To God Be the Glory.” Since a lot of publishers were hesitant to have so a lot of hymns by one person in their hymnals, Crosby employed almost 100 dissimilar pseudonyms for the duration of her career.
Fanny Crosby entered what was then known as the New York Institution for the Blind at the age of fifteen and later on taught English and history (1847 – 58).
As a pupil and as a teacher, Fanny expended 35 years at the school. She was often times asked to entertain visitors with her poems, and she often met with presidents, generals and other dignitaries. She was asked to play at President Grant’s funeral. Her initial book of poems, published in 1844, was called The Blind Girl and Other Poems.
After leaving the school, she consecrated her life to serving the poorest and the neediest. Supporting herself by her writing, she quickly gained fame for her hymns. Her general fee was a mere two dollars which oftentimes went to her work with the poor. Her mission work is legendary as is her devotion to serving others above herself.
Long unavailable, this is the story (originally published in 1906 as Memories of Eighty Years) of a remarkable life, told by Miss Crosby herself.

What an amazing life?
By R. M. Greene
I am really enjoying this autobiography. Ms. Crosby had an amazing life. She befriended at least 2 American presidents, a senator and many others in New York and national politics. She spoke before the joint sessions of Congress on 2 ocassions. She uses very beautiful and poetic language to describe places that she has been and people she met in her lifetime. The imagery is so wonderful and descriptive that you forget she is blind.

Fanny’s bio & other books/etc
By Sharon L. Vanderpool
As it was not me who received the books and cd of Fanny Crosby, I am unforuneately unable to give them a rating. My mother was the person that recieved the books and cd of Fanny, and to my knowlege they have helped her with what she originally needed them for and is pleased with them. The rating I have given you on her behalf is only an estimate as I don’t know what she would put herself. Sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your business.
